My Fellow Americans,
With all the story lines out there -- from Afghanistan to the White House party crashers -- we cannot forget about other major issues here at home. One of those issues is the President's connection to the corrupt ACORN group.
According to Fox News, "[a] handful of House Republicans did their best on Tuesday to shame Democrats and the Obama administration for its supposed connections to the controversial anti-poverty group ACORN."
The players: Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif, Rep. Dan Burton, R-Ind, Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa (the ACORN king), Hans von Spakovsky of the Heritage Foundation, Anita MonCrief, a former ACORN worker-turned- whistleblower, and Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita (Republican).
The highlights:
- Republicans voiced complaints that Democrats are not moving forward with investigations into the organization that is alleged to have committed widespread voter fraud to support Democratic candidates, in violation of the group's tax-exempt status;
- Another source of frustration for Republicans is a legal decision from the Justice Department, made public last week, that says officials at Housing and Urban Development can honor its existing contracts with ACORN despite a recently passed law forbidding federal funds from going to the group.
- Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita blamed ACORN for producing hundreds of bogus registration in just one Northern Indiana County.
Obviously, I was wrong. Nothing really shocks me with the Obama White House anymore. These are Obama's people. The same goes with SEIU. (After all, SEIU President Andy Stern does visit the White House a lot!).
While Democrats and the White House will down play any negative association with ACORN, the fact of the matter is President Obama knows what the group is about. I mean, he has had ties to the group for about 20 years. Why do YOU think investigations have hit a wall? Would Obama have even been elected were it not for ACORN and their bogus registrations? We already know they have been in trouble with voter fraud before (refer to the map above to see the states where fraud took place).
What people who blindly support ACORN (outside of the government) fail to realize is that, aside from the illegal acts, the group is designed to help the poor STAY poor -- by feeling comfortable in their poverty. It was the great Ben Franklin who said: "If you want to help the poor, help them feel uncomfortable in their poverty." That is exactly what ACORN doesn't do -- they keep the poor -- POOR.
On his Nov. 11 TV show on the Fox News Channel, Glenn Beck stated: "[Our] Founders all knew that government programs were not the answer to poverty. Making people comfortable in their poverty is not the answer to getting them out of poverty. It is the answer for government officials who gain power by making sure that the poverty stricken become permanently dependent upon, them. May I just give you the one word: Detroit." I think you would agree that Mr. Beck is right on the money with that statement.
Anti-poverty? That's the farthest thing from what this corrupt group really is. Let's end the federal funding to this joke of an organization -- for good this time.
